Seize the Sketch #19 reminder!

Thanks so much!

Popping in with a second card for Seize the Sketch #19 - already so many fabulous entries this round! It's going to be so hard to choose winners! (Now that's an awesome problem to have!)

Supplies: papers from MME; sentiment stamp from Paper Smooches; Versamark; Carnelian EP (Stampendous); Wplus9 banner die; Tiger Lily Glimmer Mist (Tattered Angels)

I used the sketch with a horizontal orientation rather than simply flipping it. And I held my breath while I flicked on the glimmer mist - I'd already embossed the sentiment when I decided to do that!

Here's the sketch - I hope you find time to play along! The linky is open until Sunday May 11.

Shopping our Stash #150 - Inspiration Photo

We have the most amazing inspiration photo for the challenge this week at Shopping our Stash -  I printed out the challenges ahead of time, and have seriously been looking at this photo and drooling over it for a month already!

Source

I was inspired by the colours & the AWESOME BUTTONS!

Supplies: paper & flower sticker from Sassafrass; lace from Recollections; sentiment from PTI; Peacock Feathers distress ink; heart veneer from Studio Calico; buttons, embroidery floss, from stash

The paper is already printed with stitched & lacy elements, so I pierced through some of those & added real stitching. And then I kept piercing & stitching, adding french knots, stitching on the lace, and pretty much just doodling with thread. The patterned flower is actually a sticker - to be able to sew on the button & have the petals bend up I rubbed the adhesive area with baby powder.

You KNOW that clock has your creative juices going... come & play along with us until next Monday, May 12th!  Make sure you hop on by & leave the rest of my teamies some love!

Tuesday Morning Sketches #248 - Deedee's Digis!

Good morning! We've got a fun sketch for you this week at Tuesday Morning Sketches - and we're sponsored by Deedee's Digis!  I was excited to be able to play along with her fabulous Congratulations Graduate set.

Supplies: Congratulations Graduate digi stamp set from Deedee's Digis;  patterned papers from Simple Stories; Karen Foster cork; Paper Smooches twine; classic small circle Nesties; button from stash

I didn't flip the sketch but rather made it work with a horizontal orientation. The cork was fun to play with - I recently got a metal adapter plate for my Cuttlebug, and no more running it through 5 times. That thing makes everything cut like butter!

Here's this week's sketch:

If you've already been to the main blog you'll have seen that Jenee is leaving the team - make sure to stop by her blog & wish her well!

The linky for this sketch will be open until Sunday, May 11 - check out what the rest of the gals got up to!

You.Are.Old.

Here's another example of dog-guided crafting...you know, for almost 3 years Abby has just sat patiently at my feet & let herself be covered with glitter & stray embossing powder & pop-dot liners...

Mimi, on the other hand, is the dog that did this to my kitchen floor - and to herself:

It really shouldn't come as any surprise that she likes to interfere with crafting.

Her contribution this time around was the pawprint border, to cover up the fact that I dropped the stamp when she barked.

Supplies: Kitty, shadow, yarn, pawprint, 'hee' stamps all from Paper Smooches; haha! stamp from CTMH; 'you are old' stamp from Unity; Memento Tuxedo Black ink; Distress inks in Evergreen Bough, Spiced Marmalade, Shabby Shutters; classic small circle Nesties; Bic markers

Let's be honest, though. If any animal is going to mock you in your old age, it's gonna be a cat. That said, Mimi the Mastodon has given me a whole new appreciation for how ridiculously low-maintenance the three cats are.

I've been catching up with my Christmas card challenges today, probably inspired by the fact that snow was in the forecast for this morning. We escaped it, but sheesh.

Savvy Butterfly Challenge

The perils of crafting with dogs...this card came out a little differently than I'd planned. While I was edging the finished butterfly panel with a Sharpie, Mimi came up behind me and WOOFED. Just once, but enough that I startled & of course dragged the marker onto the panel itself. I decided to make the mistake into an opportunity for embellishment (after taking Mimi outside to pee, that is).

Supplies: Butterfly stamp from Martha Stewart; Versamark & black detail EP; leaf & MOM stamps from Paper Smooches; Peeled Paint & SHabby Shutters distress inks; Cuttlebug tag die; Spellbinders label die; Memento Tuxedo Black ink; Yellow Daisy & Copper Tattered Angels glimmer mists

I flag-cut the ends of the sheer ribbon & heated it with my heat gun to warp & melt it a little bit, and layered the tag & button. No sign of my stray Sharpie mark now! The butterfly was painted using glimmer mists - embossing works well for this, as you can let the mist pool slightly for more colour variations. Plus, sparkle.

Her challenge runs until Tuesday, so go get your butterflies out :)

Pink Elephant meets Virginia's View

We've been going through some serious parenting challenges at our house. Like a lot of crafters, I tend to create as therapy. The time it took to pierce & stitch this card was the perfect antidote to a particularly horrid day. The pastel colours & stitching make it a great card for both The Pink Elephant's pastel challenge and Virginia's View stitching challenge.

Supplies: papers from MME; veneer from Studio Calico; letter stickers from Basic Grey; Colorbox Frost White pigment ink; Tim Holtz design ruler; embroidery floss & needle

I have just scraps left of this pretty MME paper, so I arranged a bunch of them to create a sort of faux quilt look. I used a small piece of Scor-tape to keep them all in place, and then pierced around the edges for sewing. The sentiment banner strips are part of one of the patterned pieces in the collection, and I trimmed between the words at various points so I could bend the ends up for dimension. I was a bit flummoxed to find  that I had ZERO matching letters to add the "you are" part, so I patted some white ink on top of red letters to get the effect I wanted.

FUSION - Colourful Chevron

The Fusion (Colourful Chevron) challenge ends on Tuesday - and I think for the first time ever playing along, I went with a fusion of the sketch & inspiration photo. Connor particularly loves this card - he also wants me to add "Into Hyperspace" underneath. Maybe not ;)

Supplies: paper from Simple Stories; Studio Calico veneers; glitter paper from stash; letter stickers from Sassafrass

Grab onto your collars - I made 34 cards this week, so there will be a barrage of posts in the next few days :)

Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers: Y is for Your Mama!

It's been two weeks, and we're ready for another challenge at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers - this time around we've got a very timely holiday challenge:

I've got two cards to share - one snarky, one pretty!

Supplies: image from the Graphics Fairy; saying computer generated based on an Anne Taintor image; a bunch of embellies from my stash

Closeup of the embellishments - ribbon, fibres from my friend Denyse, stick pins, sparkly dots. I stitched everything on to keep it securely fastened & arranged the way I wanted.

Supplies: Memory Box flower die; Spellbinders butterfly die; Webster's Pages lace; sentiment from PTI; Peacock Feathers distress ink; Cuttlebug embossing folder (for butterflies); acetate; beads; Mod Podge Dimensional Magic

I really love how this card turned out - the butterflies were left over from another project, and the beaded flower centres really shine. I used Dimensional Magic in each flower centre & then poured the beads in, pressing down gently to make sure they all stuck.

Want to make a pretty card for a mom, or a snarky card about motherhood? You've got 2 weeks, so link up by May 18! Make sure to visit my snarky sisters to see what they've created!

And our guest designer this week, SHARI, who has an incredible style you'll love!

And another sketch - this time the Paper Smooches SPARKS sketch:

The Paper Players #193

Continuing with my sketchy week, I played along with The Paper Players - more mother's day!

Supplies: papers from Echo Park; AC fabric thickers; quilling paper; Cuttlebug embossing folder; heart pearls from stash

There was lots of fiddling putting this together - I had planned to stamp my sentiment but forgot & embossed that layer first, so I improvised with the Thickers.
