Sketch & a Smooch!

I love the sketch for the current challenge at Make the Day Special - so versatile! I ended up making it more difficult for myself...first the card, then I'll explain my boo-boos:

I got the bright idea to pop up the designer papers, so with the sketch I'd need to cut a partial circle out of each piece & then match them back up on the card. Unfortunately they weren't lined up quite right, and isn't this the one time the foam tape decides to be unforgiving? You want that stuff to stick, you're outta luck. AUGH. Because the top of the papers were wonky as well as the circle around the cat, I decided to add some bits to make it look wonky-on-purpose. I think I made it :)

Christmas Spree!

Both of these cards were made using recycled greeting card prints, so I thought I'd tuck them in together. The jingle belles GOLD challenge ends this afternoon, and Merry Monday's Transportation challenge goes until Sunday.

Shopping our Stash #168 - Chicken!

Did you know that September is National Chicken Month? Me either! But we're celebrating it over at Shopping our Stash by creating projects featuring chickens - or any of their feathered brethren. I was amazed to realize that I had a choice of items for this challenge, and decided to go with the stashiest choice - stickers from PSX!

Supplies: Yes, that's the same paper you just saw in my TMS post (hey, it was on my desk) from Pebbles; chicken & border sticker from PSX; mini letter stickers from Kaisercraft

Since PSX stickers are sheer, I stuck this guy onto cardstock & fussy cut him. I miss PSX stickers - they are such good quality, and so well-illustrated! The sentiment is just that wee bit naughty :)

Tuesday Morning Sketches #266 - Deedee's Digis!

It's time for TWIST WEEK at Tuesday Morning Sketches - and that means along with the sketch, we'd love you to incorporate the twist of BACK TO SCHOOL! (You don't need to use the twist to play, but you do need to use it to win the top spot!)

Our sponsor this week is Deedee's Digis, and she's generously provided images for the team to work with - I've chosen September's Digi of the Month, Fall Warm-up.  It comes with both line art and fully coloured images (like all of Deedee's Digis) and is full of my favourite things about autumn! I didn't exactly follow the twist of back to school - I went with my feelings of back to school, that yay! cooler weather is around the corner.

The year's first Halloween card!

I managed to hold off until September to start making Halloween cards - but the paper pad has been on my desk waiting for a few weeks now. I don't think this image is specifically Halloween, but the cats just really wanted it to be spooky, and as Maggie Mittens will tell you, I'm a sucker for doing what the cats want.

"What do you mean I don't fit? I sits, therefore I must fits."

The current Sweet Pea Stampers challenge is to use lots of layers, so I also went paper-crazy with three patterns plus an inky doily:

Supplies: digi stamp from ching chou kuik, Sweet Pea Stamps; Spectrum Noir markers; Sharpie white paint pen; Sakura Stardust glitter pen; Doodlebug papers; doily inked with Memento Tuxedo Black ink; classic small circle Nesties; glitter buttons & black rhinestones from the dollar store. 

The smidge of glitter pen on the cats' eyes (and goth girl's) makes them appear to glow - love it when it works the way I want it to!

Last minute!

ok, last ten minutes. Super quick then! This is for the Merry Monday gifts/presents challenge:

This set of House Mouse images is just too cute - but they're also large, more suited to maybe a 5x7 card base. Note to self - check image size before buying stuff.

Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers - O is for...

Don't let Edna's sad face & blue skin fool you - you can use any colour, but make your project monochromatic for the Snarky Stampers this time around!

Steampunk Grace!

My friend's daughter turned 13 this week, and I wanted to make her a journal that she'd love - mission accomplished! As soon as I handed it to her, she said "OMG, Steampunk! I love steampunk! That is so cool!" That's got to be one of my truly favourite things about creating - when someone really loves what you've made for them :)

Distressing seems (in my mind anyway?) to go hand-in-hand with steampunk, so I'm popping this in at the ALBC Challenge (distressing); and of course in the current challenge at The Stamping Chef - this image will be my go-to for steampunk for a long time :)

Supplies: So much stash - if I miss something you wonder about, let me know! Cogsley Copperpot digi from The Stamping Chef; wood veneer stars from Studio Calico; Sew Easy; HOTP printed vellum; DCWV gears paper; filigree corners from Dress it Up!; Memory Box stencil & Dreamweaver embossing paste; home made enamel dots; Spectrum Noir markers; Mod Podge dimensional magic; butterfly charm from Pink Paislee

I could NOT get a good shiny picture - but her goggles, eyes, and boots are coated with Dimensional Magic.

I tinted embossing paste & used a sunburst stencil - but in the collaging most of it got covered up ;) The vellum is stitched to the card stock layer, and then I bent up & tore the edges for a more distressed look.  The butterfly charm is attached to the stitching with a safety pin. I also distressed & rolled the edges of the gear patterned paper. The final touch was to bead the binding & add a ribbon bookmark.

Shopping our Stash #167 - Don't Crimp My Style!

Er, or, maybe yes, crimp my style? lol! This week at Shopping our Stash we want you to include a crimped element - use a paper crimper, corrugated cardboard/paper, or ric-rac. 

I could have SWORN I had some corrugated metallic papers in my stash. I dug through everything and conceded defeat. And then I cut the flap off of one of my storage boxes by my desk. Have x-acto blade, will deface :) Because I knew this was going to be a big fat embellished card, I decided to make it 5.25" square so it can be delivered in a little box.

Supplies: Mainly scraps or stash - lace, buttons, canvas, cardboard, vellum. May Arts cream twine; Spellbinders butterfly dies; classic small & lacy circle Nesties; crocheted mat by me

I peeled one side of the paper off the cardboard to expose the corrugated bits, and tore it to about the right size for the background piece. So that all the stitching didn't show on the inside of the card, I assembled everything just on the canvas piece and then glued THAT to the card base when I was finished. 

The crocheted mat had a glaring white middle next to the creams & browns, so I cut a piece of vellum to soften it. It's held in place by the stitches in the centre holding the butterflies, button, and bow. 

Since this is a non-standard card shape, I'm also entering it over at the JUGs Wild Card challenge!
