Emily drew her own spiderweb with a clear glaze pen, and then embossed with clear embossing powder. So, when I saw the spiderweb patterned paper in We R Memory Keeper's Spookville pad, I thought "Hey! I could do what Emily did!"
....except tracing is totally not the same thing as freehand drawing, but anyhow...here's my finished card that Emily inspired:
The sentiment is handwritten on a label that was fussy-cut from one of the patterned sheets. To create the hanging spider, I used Tombow multi glue to glue thread in the 'sandwich' - spider, then web, then thread, then spider. Once that was dry, I added googly eyes to both sides of the spider, since the thread allows it to swing around on the card. That way no matter which way the spider lands, it's the "right" way.
The shine makes me happy! |
Although at first it wasn't bothering me to type, I have figured out that I have a limit. Luckily I've got 3 different series out from the library on DVD, so I've been rotting my brain with TV. Wire in the Blood, No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency, and Castle. I just learned the other day that they've been releasing books 'written by' Richard Castle to go along with the series. I think I may have done a little happy dance - just waiting for them to come in at the library so I can scarf them up. I won't get to stare at Nathan Fillion while I'm reading, but maybe it'll still be ok.
I also downloaded Picasa, and started playing around with editing my photos. At the very least, I think I've got a handle on cropping. Boy, am I itching to pick up a pair of scissors or a crochet hook...

Jessi
That turned out so cute!
ReplyDeleteFabulous card I love that web you have created!!
ReplyDelete{blushing} Aw, gee, thanks, Jessi!! What a treat to be highlighted on your blog today--I couldn't believe it when I saw may name all lit up in lights on your post title!!!! Thanks for making my day :). You totally rocked the embossing on that fun spiderweb. I'm completely amazed!!! And good idea embossing it in sections. That's what I should have done with mine (I had trouble with the my ink drying in a few places before I applied the embossing powder--Oops! So it became just a slightly distressed web :) .
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your finger. Yikes. I hope that all of that becomes resolved soon. I can' just imagine how much it's killing you not to be able to craft properly!! But, rotting away with those DVDs sounds like an entertaining alternative in the meantime. Heal fast!!!!
Love your CASE of Emily's card - your web rocks! And that spider is super cute. :)
ReplyDeleteSorry your still struggling with your finger. Glad you got to the doctor and are getting it sorted. My best friend is diabetic to so I know how careful you have to be! And funny how our dogs always seem to know exactly what's wrong...
Wow, that web is amazing, so glad you took the time to create it! Love your CASE.
ReplyDeleteBack again--thanks SO much for letting me know that I should check out MFW! I've been so busy with my sister that I wasn't able to keep up with my blog reading and would have missed it. So nice to know that I have a friend looking out for me!!!!!!!!!!!! Have a great weekend, Jessi. :D
ReplyDeleteNice! Love the spider web!!! Fun in the silver! Love it! Do hope your finger is okay now, that looks painful!! Gosh, how that can just happen like that!! Thanks for telling me about what I won at Emily's blog! I'm so excited!! Just an hour before I saw that, I ordered my first two Paper Smooches sets and then I won one more!! Sooo lovely!!! Can't wait to play with them, they are so much fun and Emily is an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteAll the best to you and your finger!!!
Hugs, Wendy
Can't believe you created that web yourself! It was so totally worth it, what an amazing card!
ReplyDeleteThat web is AWESOME! Love that card! (Look at you, even with a hurt finger!)
ReplyDeleteP.S. It's going to take a lot more than that one pic to gross me out, lol. My husband laughs at me because I watch that uber-gross show Monsters Inside Me. I think I was dermatologist in a past life, lol! JJ
P.P.S. I hear ya on Nathan Fillion. Have you ever seen him on Firefly? So cute. Enjoy the rest of your weekend! JJ
Jessi - this is fabulous. I love the web. Emily is pretty amazing isn't she. You made a beautiful card and I totally love the sentiment.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fabulous inspired card, Jessi! I didn't know you were in love with Emily. LOL But I'm a fan of hers, too, so it's all good! ;D If spiders really did build webs this pretty, I wouldn't mind them so much. Still, they are better than ants. HAHA
