Joining in with the
Stitching & Sewing challenge over at Moxie Fab World was a given - I sew on probably half of the cards I make - after all, I can't abide those naked buttons ;) For this challenge I made several cards, and made sure to make at least one that was a little more involved than just stitching on buttons, though. I do all of my stitching by hand. I was MISERABLE in Grade Eight sewing class, and never tried again to learn how.
Luckily, my oldest son Connor seems to be bucking that trend - check out these awesome initial pillows he made this term! One for him, and one for his brother Riley - and a disinterested cat.
A really easy way to add hand-stitching is to use pre-printed die cuts - in this case, from K&Co - and pierce along some of the details. I've used straight stitches, French knots, and some cross-stitching here. I did a lot of cross-stitch projects before the boys were born, and I still have a great deal of embroidery floss at my disposal!

Another card that shows my more usual stitching is this one - those button frames, they're just so easy & fun to do! And the House Mouse sticker totally steals the show - those mousies are far too cute!
I didn't add in the supplies underneath each photo - I wonder, do you generally find it useful to know? Or would you just ask if there was something you wanted to know about? Let me know in the comments either way, if you would!
OK, back to panicking about getting ready for the first sale of the season tomorrow night...
you are quit the crafter... these letters are awesome and your cards are adorable..
ReplyDeleteHow AWESOME that boys are sewing and proud of it! And not just a manly duffel bag like the guys made back in the day.
ReplyDeleteI've sewn all my life, but I have no desire to sew on cards. None. Zero. It sounds like work. Kudos to you for the patience to pull it off so well. :)
The ornament card with embroidery is beautiful! And your little mouse (house mouse?) card is perfectly sweet.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I like when people list their supplies, just in case I NEED something... ;)
LOVE how you added the stitching to the baubles, it really makes them special! I do like having the supplies to look at, but completely understand if people don't have time to do this.. it is precious card making time after all!
ReplyDeleteThese are both beautiful!! I really love the stitching on the ornaments!!
ReplyDeleteThe boys take after you, Jessi! How clever that they made those cushions!
ReplyDeleteLove how you sew the ornaments as it gives a special touch to the whole card!
Only occasionally do I refer supplies!
seriously....craftiness runs in the family! Awesome monogram pillows!
ReplyDeleteButtons and stitching...**love**
These are gorgeous! Love the pillows! I had to make our school mascot a "stingray". Let's just say it didn't looks like a stingray! Oh well!
ReplyDeleteI am loving those die-cuts and of course I am in love with the buttons!
Fun, fun, fun! Love the bright happy colors for the holidays!
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed by Connor's pillows! Looks like he's got some natural talent:) Good luck with the sale!
ohhh cute pillows by Connor! And love the cards- esp the house mousie!
ReplyDeleteI love the Christmas cards! House Mouse mice give me the creeps - they're cute but their fingers and toes. eek! And the ornaments on the other card are beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteMore adorable cards from you! I guess I'm going to have to try more stitching in the future. Beautiful ornaments and such cute mice!
ReplyDeleteI usually post my supplies too. Yet, I feel the photo of the card is pretty self explanatory except for maybe where the designer paper comes from or how to do a particular technique. I only do the SPIES since alot of challenges ask you to explain how you made a card.
LOVE the details you added to the first card! Totally gave me a "Why didn't I think of that?" moment... Connor's initial pillows rock! Looks like the cat is trying to disguise himself as an "O" to fit in...
ReplyDeleteI like the supply lists. I'm always checking out what papers you've used and who makes the stamps.
Fabulous pillows and fabulous cards. I love them both. The ornaments look wonderful with the added stitching and those mice? so cute!
