For both cards I tried some new stuff. The Christmas card I used snow paint on the stencil. It gave dimension very much like embossing paste:
Supplies: Tim Holtz stencil; Aleene's Glitter Snow paint; Inkadinkado Angel stamp & white detail, moonstone EP; Versamark; Flourishes "joy" stamp; Labels 4 Nesties; wilton doily; pearls & lace from stash
Since it was so hard to get a good photograph I did an auto-contrast edit in Picasa to show the details a little better:
Embossing shine & look at the great texture from the snow paint!
For my second card, I combined masking & stenciling - I wouldn't necessarily do it again, though, because BOY WHAT A MESS! I masked off the butterfly shape and stenciled on top, and the moisture in the embossing paste meant the post-it tore when I peeled it off. It did work, just that I got yellow EVERYWHERE.
Supplies: Making Memories stencil; PTI stamps; Memento Tuxedo Black ink; Mustard Seed, Squeezed Lemonade, and Spiced Marmalade distress inks; yellow glitter fabric paint; Wplus9 banner die; Recollections pleated ribbon; Dreamweaver embossing paste; Ranger Yellow re-inker
I mixed several drops of Yellow ink into a dab of embossing paste with a toothpick, and then applied it to the stencil with my fingers. I suppose I was going to have yellow all over the place anyhow :) I peeled the butterfly mask off right away, as I've noticed the paste works really well as glue once it's dried. After it WAS dry, I stamped the layers of the butterfly.
The boys are finally settling into a summer routine of sorts, so we're a little bit calmer. To celebrate, Riley and Rob are both sick (and now I'm coming down with it too - feels like I swallowed glass). It's always something, right? At least everybody's in a half-decent mood from all the sinus medication!
