Shopping our Stash #164 - Back in the Day

This week at Shopping our Stash we'd like to see you go wayyy back & dig out those tools/techniques that you first used when you started creating - old-school eyelet setting with a hammer, texture plates (not embossing folders), template & knife cutting instead of dies, that sort of thing. If you've already moved on & don't have any of that old stuff around any more, you can also use an old-timey image. (Not just a vintage/shabby chic style, but an actual vintage THING like an old phone, gramophone, antique car, that sort of thing).

I've still got my trusty eyelet setter & mallet in my desk drawer (no idea how old the mallet is - it was in this house when we moved in. Score!) so I dug out some of my remaining eyelets:

Supplies: Stamps from Paper Smooches; Memento Tuxedo Black ink; Spectrum Noir markers; eyelets; twine from a store that went out of business 5-6 years ago.

I also added a twine wrap using ancient twine from my stash - and with the amount of 'hair' it shedded while trying to wrap it, I remember why I haven't used it all yet ;)

Ready to time-travel with us? Check out the design team creations & join us before next Monday, August 18th!

xoxo,
Jessi

  3. Your "remaining" eyelets? I could stock a STORE with my "remaining" eyelets. I found I actually like how they set with the hammer than with my Crop-A-Dile. I always over-squeeze. Old-school IS cool! :)

  6. I love the shedding look of your twine and your sentiment is awesome! I started making cards after the eyelet trend was over so, I've never used them. They do look cool and are a fun alternative to rhinestones.

  9. Hi! I dropped by to thank you for sweet comments left on my card. I really enjoyed this card of yours. The eyelets reminded me of years......ago, and Martha Stewart craft shows. lol. But seriously, cool card. Cheers, Victoria Lavender

  10. I never did buy the eyelet setter and mallet, but I did buy the Provocraft Silent Setter and I still use it to set my eyelets! Some of the older tools work great! Fun card and such a fun use of eyelets and twine to say "thanks!"

  12. I like any hobby that counts a hammer or mallet among the tools. :D It was also my favourite library tool -- you know, to pound the looong staples over wen the stapler didn't quite finish the job. But I digress -- this is a perfect CAS card... and eyelets! The twine hair adds character.

  13. What a pretty CAS card, Jessi! Oh, my God, eyelets! I have revolving containers of hundreds of them in every color you can imagine. Geez, did I ever buy into that trend and there they sit. You've inspired me to think of ways I can start using mine, too. Maybe we can bring them back into vogue!! Where do we keep vogue anyway and how do things escape from there?

Have a great weekend!! Hugs, Darnell
