Shopping our Stash #89 - Birthday!

It looks like there's school in our district today again - much to the disappointment of my youngest. Poor kid - not only did we have a blizzard on the weekend, but we had a sloppy mess of snow & rain overnight, and still no snow day. I'm thinking the school morning routine is going to suck extra hard this morning....

On that depressing note, let's celebrate! lol
At Shopping our Stash this week, we want to see your BIRTHDAY cards/projects using up your stash! I got messy making mine & had a fabulous time. I started with this bird die-cut from an old card front ages ago that I found in my drawer of stickers:

Supplies: recycled card front; standard small circle Nesties; lacy circle Nesties; Mustard Seed distress ink; Grey Flannel Memento ink; Annabelle Stamps (music); Palette Noir ink; Paper Smooches (sentiment); black rhinestones; crochet by me; paper from Pink Paislee

I didn't have any paper that seemed to match or complement the bird image, but I found some cool cream-coloured ledger paper from Pink Paislee, and went to town on it with Mustard Seed & my trusty ink blending tool. If you click to view the picture full-size you can still make out the original detail. I stamped the music background over top of the yellow ink while it was still damp, and it made for a cool distressed effect. I am really happy with how this turned out!

You can click up top on "Design Teams" to see a full list of the designers on my teams at any time.

This Shopping our Stash challenge is open until Monday February 18th.  Don't forget to check out what everyone else has been up to!

Remember how I said today's morning routine wasn't going to be fun? The whole time I've been typing up this post, my youngest has been screaming about the school being liars, and the weather is atrocious, and he wore his pajamas inside out so why is there school? (Local tradition, that last one...) Yeah. Definitely going to be a rough morning! Hard to stay focused when you're being yelled at.

xoxo,
Jessi

isn't it funny how the kids wish real hard for snow days but adults don't...at least I don't...I hate to drive in the stuff and it's just best for everyone on the road that I don't either:)

Your card is so striking...the yellow with the black is magnificent.

Love your blending to achieve the color you need! This is beautiful and of course you know I love the crochet mat.

Oh yes, not calling school when they should, and calling it when they shouldn't. Bless you! I hope you got them off ok and your earballs (yes I said earballs hee hee) survived! Hope you could come home and craft something! Bless you dear I so know what it's like! :-) If that helps a teeny bit?

So sorry about your rough getting-ready-for-school morning, Jessi! That kind of thing can be extra hard. My kids had two days off from the blizzard – Friday and Monday – and I was so thankful to get them back in a routine today. Anyway, I love your bright and sunshiny birthday card. I would bet this card gets snapped up quickly at the farmers market!

Sorry to hear that you started the day with a rough morning, Jessi! Wished you could on a headphone and ignore them but we can't, right? My kids would be screaming for joy if there are no lessons at the beginning or end of the day. (local secondary school)

Lovely card with summer colours!

Bummer about school! I hate having to worry about the weather on top of the normal morning routine. Not fun!

On the upside, your card is lovely! That bird image looks perfect framed in that mat! And great tip on using your ink to get the right color. That's why I don't do patterned paper, lol! I never seem to have the right colors! (that's my excuse;)

This is such a pretty pretty spring card Jessi! Your choices of colors, and the musical notes on the background are quite stunning. And I just love how you outlined it with that beautiful black lace! And you did it all under such stress...my dear you are an angel...I can not begin to imagine how touch life can get around your house...and yet you still produce such beautiful calm cards for us to enjoy and gather inspiration from...thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Love your card. I adore birds. Such fabulous colors.

I have two students in my class that are autistic...the one thing that I struggle with is the screaming. One of them screams non-stop and it's so hard. How do you do it? You're my hero.

Gorgeous card!!!
I used to love snow days! I think every place has a weird "let's-get-a-snow-day" rituals. But we home school so my kids NEVER get a snow day!! But they do get the "I decided to take you on a field trip today" days that other kids don't! :)

As a kid I LOVED snow days...still do! Those 2 words sound like magic!
Love the bright card! I don't usually like black and yellow but you pulled it off just beautifully! Love how you made your own background paper! So cool!
