Playing in Paradise #78 - Cup, Litre, Gallon

Confused? Intrigued? I know I was! It's Angela's turn to challenge us over at Playing in Paradise this week, and lucky for us, she's got a great explanation over at the Scrapbooker's Paradise blog! Go check it out first, and then my blather after the card will make so much more sense!
PPC78

OK, are you back? I had a bit of a time with this challenge - I find colour challenges difficult, as I've mentioned before, BUT I think that Angela's helped me figure out a great approach. And, like with sketches, maybe it just takes practice to get comfortable.

Remember for this week, you don't have to use the colours in the prompt above - you can choose others, so long as you're going with the principle :) And with that in mind, my card:
Supplies: kraft patterned paper from Basic Grey "Basics;"
wood button from stash;
grey button from Basic Grey;
sentiment stamp from Hero Arts;
Palette Noir ink;
twine from Paper Smooches;
standard small oval Nesties;
doctor stamp from My Favorite Things;
Salmon Adirondack ink;
watercolored with Distress inks:
Old Paper
Vintage Photo
Black Soot

I think I've got some work to do on my proportions, as it feels a little more like gallon/gallon/cup, but I went with it since I like the layout. My INTENDED gallon colour is white, so I've left an offset white border on each side of the card, as well as using a white panel for my image. Brown is my litre colour - the paper, and the doctor's trousers, and the wooden button. My cup colour is black/grey - and without remembering at the time, I've managed to keep Angela's advice in mind, to use the darkest colour most sparingly. The twine, button, and 'ground' in the image are all small touches that add up. I love the layered button - I punched partial holes at the top & bottom of my card to allow the twine to tie around the card, and threaded the ends through the buttons to tie a bow.

As always, the linky for this challenge will be open until Thursday at noon - this week's ends on August 9. Head over to Scrapbooker's Paradise to check out this week's prize & last week's winner, and don't forget to see what the rest of the team created:

And, as is seeming to become a habit, I'll be back later today! Fridays sure are getting busy here :)
xoxo,
Jessi

I too struggle with colour challenges but I think we made it on through just fine :). Love your card, what a fantastic image. The twine and button are perfect.

Thanks for sharing this design strategy... it definitely worked for your card! Colour challenges are seldom my favourite, either, but I'll give this a try!
