Bright & Cheery Shaker!

Being up at oh dark thirty has its perks, I guess...it means I was quick on the draw to combine a few challenges and actually *gasp* link up in time!

Vellum Poppies

I am noticing that watercoloured cards are very popular with my customers, so this week I made a point of doing quite a few of them. Or, I should say - of starting them. I have tons of panels and maybe half of them made into actual ready cards. Ahem. Anyway, that was perfect for incorporating a couple of challenges this morning - the Just Us Girls challenge to use vellum, and the Stamplorations challenge to use stamps & watercolouring. 

Supplies: Unknown poppy stamp; Reverse Confetti sentiment; Versamark & clear EP; Palette Noir ink; watercolour paper; smidge of vellum; Distress inks for watercolouring - ripe persimmon, festive berries, tumbled glass, broken china, peeled paint; Tim Holtz design ruler & embroidery supplies

This is one of those cards that just didn't quite know what it wanted to be - I was initially planning to wrap the vellum over the image, the background cardstock was going to be red, etc etc. The offset turquoise layer and the stitching ended up making me very happy. The poppy stamp was masked and stamped twice to create a longer panel. To get the coloured embossed sentiment, I inked first with Versamark & then with Festive Berries.

Finally got myself together to play along ON TIME with the JUGs challenge! Yay! AND the Doodle Pantry challenge - it's been a while for both, so yay me :)

Vintage St Patrick's Day

It's been St. Patty's week at my desk! All the green.

Supplies: vintage clip art from The Graphics Fairy; MFT banner die; Dress it Up coin charms; May Arts cream twine; clear EP; versamark; Brilliance Galaxy Gold ink; Cuttlebug embossing folder; Tattered Angels glimmer mist in Olive Green & Copper; scraps of vellum & copper card stock

This wasn't hard to make but there were definitely a few techniquey things, so I'll explain :) I printed out the clip art on the fast draft setting by accident, so it was a bit blurry. I decided to make that look like it was on purpose by doing a cracked glass technique - but after 4 coats of clear EP I called it good & left it like that. 

The background was created by spritzing Olive Green & Copper glimmer mists, then dry embossing, then swiping Galaxy Gold ink on top, and clear embossing. 

The banners were die cut from copper card & vellum, and I snipped a tiny bit in between each pennant to allow me to bend them. 

I was very much inspired by the banners in the inspiration photo at Just Us Girls, and since St. Patrick's day is the first Spring holiday, I'm also entering over at The Paper Players.

A Colour Challenge? Whoa.

I am colour-challenge challenged...I start out with good intentions and then usually make a left turn somewhere, but darn it, I stuck with it this time for the Just Us Girls colour combo - paired with the sketch from Fusion.

Sweet Valentine Shaker

I'm slowing down on the Valentine's cards but they're so much fun I can't resist still making a few :) This one is using an image from Mo Manning, and it makes me think of my darling Abby dog!

Glittery Stenciled Birthday

I had great messy fun making this card - embossing paste, spray mists, inks, sewing! The current (for 9 more hours) Just Us Girls challenge is to use stencils, so that was my starting point for inspiration.

Supplies: Dyan Reaveley stencil; Dreamweavers embossing paste; Peacock Feathers & Tumbled Glass distress inks; Ranger turquoise mist; stamps from Annabelle Stamps; classic small circle Nesties; buttons, lace, and seam binding ribbon from stash

I began with a panel spritzed with Ranger mist, applied the embossing paste, and let it dry overnight. Then I inked Peacock Feathers ink over the stencil which I flipped to fill in other parts of the pattern. The rest just kind of happened :)

Merry Monday Mixed Media!

This card was a custom order for a specific person who occasionally visits my blog, but since it doesn't have a name on it I think it's still safe to share it :)

Super shimmery goodness! The snowflake is quilled in two layers since this will be hand-delivered. I love the frosty detail of the snowflake - this card was my first time using it.

Trying to channel my inner Lauren...

...you know Lauren, the most amazing textural collagey-stitchy fabulous designer? So she shared the most amazing torn & stitched collage yesterday, and I thought to myself, SELF YOU CAN DO THAT. Maybe not exactly, but I had fun with it anyway!

Supplies: papers from Webster's Pages; chipboard from MME; stickers from Simple Stories; Antique Linen distress ink; doily, lace, and buttons from stash; Tim Holtz design ruler, embroidery floss 

Both sides of the card are cross-stitched, but I've covered up the right hand side with lace. I 'aged' the doilies a bit with distress ink. 

Supplies: papers from MME; bow sticker from Making Memories; EAD Designs rub-on sentiment; rhinestones from dollarama; green doily from Lauren herself! 

I really really did have torn layers all over this card - and then I covered most of them up. It's the process, people. lol!

Sunflowers at JUGs!

Seriously got the crafty going over the weekend - I LOVE those times, where the ideas come faster than I can get them on paper!

As soon as I saw the Just Us Girls photo inspiration, I knew what I wanted to do. It's time for me to tuck away my autumn-themed stamps and papers, but I wanted to make ONE MORE before I did that.

So the grey sentiment? I store my ink pads upside down, and had already stamped it before I realized I'd picked up the wrong one. Oh well.

Wooohooo!

My Evil DoubleMint Twin, Chris, sistah from another mistah, has just joined the Just Us Girls challenge team :) She dared me to play along - so bossy, that one! I combined the prompt word CELEBRATE with the sketch from The Challenge.

Halloween Kitty

First of all - this digi is from years ago, and was before I saved images with the company/artist name in the file. If you recognize it, please let me know so I can give proper credit!

Second of all, the fence made me think of the great inspiration photo at Just Us Girls this week - the decorations aren't specifically Halloweeny but it still spurred me to go print this out & colour it up :)

Merry Girls!

I have no idea why I found the sentiment challenge at Merry Monday so difficult - probably because I had too many ideas! Once I saw the Just Us Girls colour challenge, though, it all came together.

Supplies: AC card stock; Inkadinkado sentiment; Versamark & clear EP; Worn Lipstick distress ink; Cuttlebug embossing folder; Tattered Angels rose glimmer mist; classic small & lacy oval Nesties

To get the pink embossing, I used Versamark & Worn Lipstick to ink the stamp, and then embossed with clear EP. The embossed swirl panel was spritzed with Glimmer Mist for sparkle. I did want to add some embellishment under the sentiment, but couldn't find anything I liked so left it plain (for now!)

Watercolour Play!

I've got something that's a little out of my comfort zone today - but I loved making it! I cut a piece of card stock to size, and then used a paintbrush to create a watercolour background with Glimmer Mists. I've painted with them before but this time I started out with no idea where it was going to go. Once I was happy with the basic look, I dripped some red mist randomly around the paper (you can see where the paper was drier & wetter when I did that, lol)

Supplies: Yellow Daisy, Tiger Lily, Candy Apple Red glimmer mists from Tattered Angels; embossing folder from Cuttlebug; Spiced Marmalade distress ink; Memento Tuxedo Black ink; PTI sentiment; classic small circle Nesties; butterfly die cut from stash; black rhinestones from Dollarama

After the paper dried I embossed it with my favourite folder, and then swiped it lightly with the Spiced Marmalade ink to help the embossing pop. The butterfly die cut was a gift ages ago, in my stash of 'hmmm, what am I going to do with that?' stuff. I absolutely LOVE the shimmer from painting with these mists!
